Brown Bag Minutes - 11/7/07

BROWN BAG MINUTES – November 7, 2007

MP3 Play Information

Thurs, 11/15 – Auditions for the play, 10 to noon. These are closed - teachers, kids and Vicky only. Not mandatory, usually all the kids audition. It is a safe and fun environment. Kids will know what their part is by the end of that day.

Mon, 11/19 – 3:00 until about 4:00, Mandatory Parent Meeting with Vicky Schindele. Specifics regarding costumes, sets and props will be discussed.

Sat, 12/8? – tentative work day for sets. Teachers will confer on this date and let us all know for sure. We are hoping that Mr. Johnson’s high school drama class will be making the sets for us; they will just need to be put together on a Saturday.

Week of 12/17 through 12/21 will be the performances. Morning performances at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and evening performances at 7 pm on Wednesday and Thursday. Evening performances are for the families and the morning performances are primarily for the Rolling Hills students.

It is very important that our kids be at school during the time the play is being rehearsed, unless of course they are ill. Same for the performances. This annual class production is a big undertaking and a real team effort. Thanks for your support!

Rolling Hills School

Thanks to everyone for being so diligent about wearing name tags and signing in while you are at the school. At a recent staff meeting, Mrs. Schmalfield reiterated her desire to keep campus-wide security tight. Nametags and sign-ins help our office staff to always know who is on campus and ultimately, to keep our children safer. ThanksJ

Stone Soup
/strong>
Wed, 11/21 at 11 a.m. – Our kids help to prepare Stone Soup on this day. Val Muir is heading up a committee to help organize and supervise this fun event. Sign-up sheets will be in the classroom soon for specific donations for items such as broth, vegetables and paper goods. All of the children participate in this day and families are welcome to come and enjoy the feast. Teachers will be reading Stone Soup stories to the class starting at about 11 and the soup will be served at 11:30.

Author’s Tea

Fri, 11/16 – 11:00 – The first, second and third graders will have an opportunity to share their work at our first Author’s Tea for the year. Finger sandwiches and other food items will be served afterwards – a sign-up will be in the classroom this week. If your child is reading, you are welcome to come and join in on this fun time.

MP3 Blog - http://rollinghillsmp3.blogspot.com

Mary Bogan has set up a blog for the parents in our MP3 classroom. She is currently taking graduate classes at CSUF in the Reading Program and this was part of one of her classes. She sent an e-mail to everyone on 10/31. Check it out! It’s another source for information as to what’s going on in the classroom. The side areas of the blog contain permanent information and the middle section will be updated regularly with information regarding the play, classroom events, Stone Soup, Garage Sale, etc. etc.

Chili Dinner

We made almost $700! Thanks to all who attended and supported this event.

Garage Sale

Monica Henry will be heading up this big fundraiser for our classroom. We are looking at dates in March or April. More information will be coming. Our classroom account is getting low and will be effectively drained after “Mary Poppins.” We raise about $2000 on this event and are hoping to do even better this year. We will need participation from all families to make it a success. More information will be forthcoming, as we get closer to the event.
